Condoms are the most effective way to fend of nasty sexually transmitted diseases and when used correctly are also one of the most effective ways to protect against unwanted pregnancy. However, part of the ‘using it correctly’ involves ensuring that you’re wearing the right size. If a condom is too loose or too tight (ouch!) then the likelihood or it either slipping off or breaking is increased. Whilst a lot of men think that length is the main determining factor when it comes to condom sizes, the girth size is actually the more important element.
To avoid wearing a condom that doesn’t fit properly, take a look at our handy guide to choosing the right size condom.
What happens when you don’t wear the right size condom?
As mentioned, wearing a condom that isn’t the right size can cause a lot of issues. The main issue (and probably most important!) is that when wearing the wrong size it can slip off or break, causing the condom to be ineffective. Above and beyond that, choosing the right size condom helps to avoid all kinds of discomfort.
If it’s too tight, you’ll start to feel incredibly restricted and uncomfortable and if it’s too loose, your partner might start to feel the rubber crinkling inside of them. Neither option is particularly arousing - there’s nothing sexy about an ill-fitting condom.
How to choose the right size condom
There’s nothing to be ashamed about if you wear a small condom, in fact, most men should be wearing small condoms as they fit the average size penis in the UK. Anyone with a penis that is 5-7 inches in length and 1.7-2 inches in width will fit into a small condom perfectly. Try the Mates conform condom or the Pasante trim condom for a slightly more snug fit.
For a penis that is about 7 to 7.9 inches in length and 2.05 to 2.13 inches in width, you will want to opt for the slightly larger medium size condoms. This will ensure that your circulation remains in tact, and you don’t feel restricted by the latex. Most of our regular size condoms come in this size.
If you are over 8 inches in length and are around 2.13 to 2.3 inches in width, then a large condom will work for you. Try the Amor XXL Condom for something that’s only slightly bigger than the regular condom and the Glyde Maxi Condom for a perfect fit for the larger man.
Size Extra Large
If your length is around 8 inches or below, but your width is 2.3 inches or over, then you will need an extra large condom. The Pasante Super Kingsize condom is ideal for men with extra large penises and will allow you some extra room with a 2.7 inch width.
