EllaOne Morning After Pill
EllaOne is an emergency contraceptive intended to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or if your contraceptive method has failed. For example, if you had sex without protection, if the condom splits, slipped or came off, if you forgot to use one or if you did not take your contraceptive pill as recommended. Recent studies have shown that ellaOne can be effective if taken, up to five days after unprotected sex, but is more effective when taken as quickly as possible. However, if vomiting occurs within three hours of taking the medication, a replacement dose should be taken, and a doctor, nurse of pharmacist should be consulted.
When used for emergency contraception, Ulipristal acetate can cause side effects. The most commonly reported side effects are: abdominal pain, back pain, diarrhoea, dizziness, headache and vomiting.
If you feel you are suffering from any uncommon side effects, contact your doctor for advice straight away. Read the patient information leaflet for a full list of side effects.
